TPS61020: Low Battery shutdown

I am using the TPS61020 to boost 2.4V ( two chargeable NiMH batteries) to 4.8V. We have to shutdown the TPS61020 , when the battery voltage reaches 1.8V.

We are using a resistor divider across LBI for the low battery detect.

In the present circuit configuration, the device is not getting shutdown because when the Low battery threshold is reached , LBO is pulled low, the device shuts down causing the LBO to be in high impedance state and thereby again enabling the device. It continues to toggle between ENABLED and DISABLED states.

Is there any way TPS61020 can be shutdown at low battery conditions

Hi Arun:

The LBO will remain high impedance when converter is disable. So the solution you use is not suitable.

May I know why you need to shutdown at 1.8V? To protect the battery or for other reasons?

Hi Minqiu,

I have a front end trickle charging, with reverse battery protection. If the battery depletes too much, it wont be able to drive the reverse battery protection circuit and restart trickle charging. 5v input voltage is available most of the time to charge the batteries.

Is there any way I could shutdown TPS61020 higher than the 0.8V battery undervoltage .

Hi Arun:

You can't use the LBI/LBO function to disable the converter itself. You could have a look at tps63030, it has 1.6V(typical) under voltage lock.

Besides, I'm still little confused about your system. It's better to share the system block with me. Thank you~
