LM1084: LM1084ISC-5.0/NOPB Pinout Question

Part Number: LM1084

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone,

I am working on a design and am planning to use the LM1084ISC-5.0/NOPB regulator from Digikey. I was looking through the datasheet and noticed that the diagram on page three of the datasheet, which shows the pinouts of the different versions of the device. For the SMT version (the one I'll be using), lists the tab as a node titled "Vout", and the middle of the three pins is labelled as "output" does this mean that the tab and pin are two different nodes, and if so, which is the true output voltage. Looking through the rest of the datasheet, figure eleven lists the output as "output", but figure 12 lists the output. I would like to assume that the pin and tab are the same node, but don't want to risk the whole design on that assumption. Does anyone have any insight?

Cheers,

Brandon

  • Hi Brandon,

Both "output" and "Vout" refer to the same thing.

These are effectively 2 pins on the package which connect to the Vout of the internal circuitry.

The larger pad area of the tab gives a better output node to carry more current, which explains the guidance in the datasheet on page 20.

    Thanks,
