TPS54521: How to implement of spread spectrum modulation

Part Number: TPS54521
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54302

Hi there,

We used the TPS54521 for main power supply unit in mobile camera apllication,

Now we faced to solve the EMC(conducted emission) issue for automotive application using TPS54521, but TPS54521 doesn't support the internal spread spectrum fuctionality.

In order to implement spread spectrum modulation, we use the external oscillator supported spread spectrum, If we generate the modulated clock to RT/CLK pin, can be possible to implement?

If yes, can you recommend the TI oscillator product?

Many thanks.

  • Hi Taejoon,

Yes, If you generate the modulated clock to RT/CLK pin, TPS54521 can implement spread spectrum modulation.

By the way, what's the maximum loading about this automotive application? We have part TPS54302 which can support spread spectrum modulation without another oscillator part. TPS54302 maximum loading is 3A. Can it meet your requirement?

    BRs,

    Edwin.

  • Hi Edwin,

    Thanks for reply.

Our camera application is ToF camera, our camera have two VCSEL diodes which consume the about 3.5A/us peak current

Thus we need to review our power system before accept your suggestion

    Thanks.
