TPS92513HV: alternatives with better PWM

Part Number: TPS92513HV
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92513, TPS92640, , TPS92641

Hello team,

I'm considering a new development where I plan to use a constant current buck LED drivers such as the TPS92513. I noticed that minimum duty cycle is very limited. Since I want to obtain a high dimming contrast ratio, I need to have a quite performing smooth/deep-dimming, thus I'm asking to you guys if we have any device that is similar to the TPS92513 but that can offer better dimming contrast ratio.

Please let me know if we have any alternatives.

Best regards,

Adrian

  • Hello Adrian,

    I would look at the TPS92515AHV.  The TPS92640/641 is more complicated and also has capability for deep dimming.

  • Hi,

    as the frequency of the pwm, the objective is to use a frequency> 15kHz for 80-90% of the dimming range and for the remaining 10% we can use lower frequencies (up to 1KHz) to have a good resolution.
    Here are the other general specifications:

    • Iout_max = 1100mA
    • Vin_max = 65Vdc
    • Current control with analogue setpoint;
    • Current control with pwm;

    Do you still suggest the same devices?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Adrian

  • Hello Adrian,

    If your Vin can go to 65V I would look at the TPS92640/641.  It is not automotive qualified if your application is automotive.  The other parts, TPS92513HV, TPS92515AHV have absolute maximum ratings of 65V which leaves no margin for your input voltage.

    You can look at Shunt FET dimming which is capable of much higher contrast ratios.  The TPS92515A and TPS92641 will have information regarding enable dimming and Shunt FET dimming.  Do you plan on having a capacitor across the LEDs?

    Best Regards,
