LM5050-1: LM5050 in 2 PS application

Part Number: LM5050-1

Hi,

I have a question about LM5050 in 2 PS applicaiton.

Normally the output should be the hign voltage PS, but what if the two PS is the same voltage? and if it have some ripple at teh same DC voltage, will the or-ring switch a lot? will these canse any problem accroding to your experience.

Thank you.

Penn

  • Hi Penn,

If the ORing voltage are close to each other and if the ripple amplitude is small and frequency is higher than LM5050 regulation control bandwidth (100KHz to 150KHz), then LM5050 will not have time to react and doesn't turn on/off. However if the ripple is considerable (much more than few 10mV), then reverse comparator will trip and turn off the LM5050 and ON/OFF operation would continue.

If the ripple amplitude is smail, but more than reverse comparator threshold (22mV) and if the ripple frequency is low, then also ON/OFF will be seen.

However in both the condition, if the DC voltage difference is very low (10mV-20mV) and ripple is very low enough, load current will be shared among the two PS.

    Regards,

    Kari.

  • Hi Kari,

Very clear. Thank you very much.
