UCC2895: UCC2895 vs UCC28951

Part Number: UCC2895

I will use part of Phase Shift Full Bridge.

I mark a comparative review of UCC2895 or UCC28951.

What is the biggest difference between the two products?

What kind of performance and decides to do?

  • Hello David,

The UCC28951 has multiple light-load management features including burst mode and dynamic SR on/off control when transitioning in and out of Discontinuous Current Mode (DCM) operation,
This ensures ZVS operation down to much lighter loads.

The UCC2895 is an older part and does not have these features.

  • Hello David

The TI website gives a compare option - see for all our PSFB products.

Here's a printout of the comparision I ran on the two parts - /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/196/4431.Compare-Parts.pdf

Here's my opinion on the most important differences.

1/ The UCC28951 is a newer device building on the experience we and our customers had with the UCC2895. Both are ACTIVE devices of course and either may be chosen for your application.

2/ The biggest difference is that the UCC28951 has drive signals to control Synchronous Rectifiers. It also disables the SR signals at light loads - to improve light load efficiency by eliminating the SR gate drive losses - at the expense of increased Vf losses in the rectifiers of course. If you plan to use SRs then the UCC28951 is the better choice.

3/ Either device can be placed in the primary or secondary circuit but the UCC28951 is mainly intended for secondary side control which eliminates the need for an optocoupler. The UCC2895 is mainly intended for primary side control.

4/ There are more package options available for the UCC2895. This may be an important factor, depending on your manufacturing process.

5/ Overall, unless you have a specific reason for choosing the other device, the UCC28951 is probably the better option.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
