BQ27441EVM-G1A: Options in case chem id of FG does not match to battery

Part Number: BQ27441EVM-G1A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCCHEM, BQSTUDIO

Hello,

I am using BQ27441 Fuel Gauge in my system for battery monitoring with NCR18650 3.7V 1S1P 11.84Wh battery. I used the EVM for recording the logs and uploaded the results to GPCCHEM tool to get the chemical ID for my battery.

The GPCCHEM tool suggests chem ID 2086 with closest match, but from the datasheet it seems that BQ27441 only supports chem ID 0x128.

Is there a way I can use the BQ27441 fuel gauge with my current battery by configuring/calibrating the fuel gauge?
What are the options here for me to explore?

Thanks in advance !

  • hi Naman

THe bq27441 would not be the best gauge to use in this case. You will need a flash gauge like the bq27520

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

    Thank you for your advice.

Could you please advice us on below queries.
    1) What kind of battery it will bq27441 support, so we can maybe get those batteries ?
    2) Is there any way to use the bq27441 gauge and read the value not exactly but approximate values ?
I understand that a flash gauge will be better, but since our design is already fixed, I would like to know if there is any workaround to read my battery properly using bq27441.
    3) Could you please suggest us if there is any foot print compatible gauge ?

    Thanks,

    Naman

  • Hi Naman

    1. Your Fae reached out and i have addressed the questions. However for the cell that will work, you can find that from bqstudio by selection a flash gauge and going to the chemistry tab to look at the nomenclature of the id that falls under 0x128:

manufacurer HYB: Mode ICR18650NH is the cell that chem id 128 was created for.

    2.  No, there isn't.

    3. There is no footprint compatible gauge unfortunately.

    thanks
