LM4120: LM4120 Notation

Part Number: LM4120

Hello,

In LM4120 part, there are two notations, for example,

- LM4120AIM5-2.5 and

- LM4120IM5-2.5 etc.

I understand that LM4120AIM5-2.5 part is A grade and it verifies 125 degree celcius condition. Is that correct ?

  • Hi Arin,

The LM4120 is a "I" grade device. This means that it is "I" for industrial and thus a ambient temperature of -40C to 85C as shown in the RoC.

The Tj, Juction temperature, can be higher up to 125C but we do not recommend to use at an ambient temperature higher than 85C.

Most of the time when we refer to a 125C device, we mean that the ambient temperature can be up to 125C.

I would use the REF3025 If you need a 125C ambient temperature device with similar performance to the LM4120. If you need more performance, look into REF3125 or REF3425.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your suggestion but these products are not appropriate for my application because these do not have same pin configuration with LM4120.

You said that 85C is the recommended max ambient temperature so my second question is:

    - If I use LM4120 with high impedance output (low power consumption case) and I guaranteed that its junction temperature does not exceed 125C, can I use

this device in higher ambient temperature than 85C (for example 90C or 95C) ?

    Thank you for your reply.

  • Hi Arin,

While it is possible to keep the Tj low, I cannot recommend to use the LM4120 at higher ambient temperatures than the RoC recommended range.

We do have P2P alternatives such as the LM4128, LM4132 that work up to 125C ambient. Would these be a possible alternative?

  • Hello,

Yes, LM4128 and LM4132 have same footprints but they do not have same input supply range (less than LM4120). Therefore, these products also are not seen appropriate. Thank you.

    Best regards.
