LM5175EVM: 8.2V zener

Part Number: LM5175EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5175

Hi,

I use LM5175 for a reference design for 12~19Vin and 12Vout

But I got an issue  for IC controller broken at switch on off test and short protection.

Is that I don't use 8.2V ZD at both SW & HDRV pin?

Why you revise a new EVM schematic only by adding these twn ZD?

  • Hi Wendler,

Thanks for reaching out with your questions and for using the LM5175.

The zeners on the evaluation module are placed there to keep the BOOT1 to SW1 voltage and BOOT2 to SW2 voltage from exceeding the absolute maximum voltage rating. Depending on a a number of factors the switch nodes can ring negative causing the BOOTx to SWx voltage to be over charged. A good layout where the switch node size is minimized will help reduce the negative ringing on the switch node.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
