TPS65930: power down

Part Number: TPS65930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM3730

hi:

i am using tps65930 to control the power of  dm3730. Now i have a problem. There is a key buttom in board , when i press it ,it will send a interrupt to PWRON  of tps65930 to shut down power. Howerer the tps65930 donot shut down power to dm3730. i donot know why. should i need to add any linux driver to control tps65930? or should cpu need to check the tps65930 some register to know interrup has come and then do shut down power? so what is these register ? please tell me。thankyou verymuch.  my linux is 2.6.3 version

  • Hello,

I am researching your question and will provide an answer by the end of the day tomorrow.

  • Hello,

The TPS65930 is typically powered off by the processor, not through the push button like you described. There should be a way to change the software with the processor to handle a power off event using a push button, but I am unable to provide any information on that. I would suggest posting a thread for the DM3730 team to provide a method for controlled shut down.

If you are able to sustain uncontrolled shutdowns on this design, you could add a power switch on the VBAT input for TPS65930 that you can use to remove all power from the PMIC. This will allow you to power off the PMIC and processor, but it will not be a controlled power down and may cause issues for you application.

  • hi:

i see your tps65930  articles, the POWON is the same means VBAT, so my buttom is  actually  connect to the VBAT, but  this buttom just can power on  , canot  power off  no mattrr how long i press buttom, why 65930 do not like computer  power key , when i press computer power key for several second , it will shut down,  should i need to config 65930 slave mode or something?

  • Hello,

There may be a way to configure TPS65930 to turn off using a long key press but we do not have any knowledge on how to do this. The DM3730 processor team may be able to tell you if this is possible and how to enable it if it is.
