UCD74120: Circuit Design UCD74120 and for UCD9244EP.

Part Number: UCD74120
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6678, UCD9244-EP, , TPS40422, TPS40428, TPS40322, UCD9222, UCD7242

Hi TI team,

In our design, we have two TMS320C6678 DSPs (D0 and D1). The variable core voltage (CVDDD) for each the DSPs consumes around 15A of current.

We are using two UCD74120 regulators designed for 20A of current - one for each core. They are connected with UCD9244-EP for smart reflex configuration.

I'm attaching the schematic of that portion. Kindly verify if the schematic for the UCD74120 and UCD9244EP are correct.

Thanks and Regards,
Binayak

  • Hi Binayak,

Can you consider other solutions for this application, such as TPS40322, TPS40422 or TPS40428?

We don't have much resource to support UCD controller. Sorry about it.

The parts I recommended are easy to use and low cost.

    Thanks

    Qian

  • Hi Qian,

There are reasons for us to go with UCD74120:

[1] This regulator is an easy match with UCD9244EP for smart reflex aspects.

[2] This regulator along with UCD9222  used in EVMK2HX_ K2H_evm (schematic of the EVM is attached).

[3] In one of the old post, it was mentioned that using UCD7242 as in the EVM of 6678 limits the current to 10A. They had suggested to use UCD74120 if we don't want to club  two of UCD7242.

These are the reasons we are sticking with UCD7242 with UCD9244-EP.

Hence we have chosen these devices.

Hope you and your team will take these points into consideration, and help us verify the schematic.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Binayak,

Your schematic is almost the same as reference design.

    It looks fine to me.

    Thanks
