WEBENCH® Tools/TPS5401: TPS5401

Part Number: TPS5401

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

I'am using the TPS5401DGQR DC/DC converter with the following working ranges:

VIN_min = 4,5V

VIN_max = 30V

The WEBENCH® tool suggests to use the following voltage divider for the ENABLE pin:

RenT = 105kohm

RenB = 46.4Kohm

By doing this the maximum voltage drop on ENABLE pin would be arround 9V when Vin is 30V, but in the datasheet it is written that the maximum voltage on ENABLE pin should be 5V

How is it possible should I trust in the simulator?

  • Hi Paolo,

    I believe WEBENCH suggest that EN divider based on your VIN-min requirement, looks like the EN threshold is around 4.1V with some hysteresis.

    The input voltage UVLO is 2.5V for this part, meaning it will try to turn on at input voltages that low, unless you use the suggested enable divider.

    You can either

    Float the EN pin and let the converter turn on at lower input voltage.
    Or Zener clamp the EN pin to protect overvoltage at high input voltage.

    Hope this clears things up,

    -Orlando
