LM73605-Q1: about output overvoltage protection

Part Number: LM73605-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM73605

Hi TI expert,

I am using LM73605 for automotive infotainment LCD panel 3.3V power supply, the LCD panel has a maximum 3.96V input voltage.

During normal operation, will overvoltage happen on LM73605's output? I am worried about the overvoltage will damage the LCD panel.

  • Hi Jiang,

There is not much to get wrong here as control loop is internally compensated, so you should not see any over-voltage on the LM73605.

The worst case scenario would be load transient dump (going from full load to no load) and datasheet figures 69 and 70 show about a 200mV transient voltage rise in that event, you should see a small spike to 3.5V.

If you are really worried, this part has PGOOD overvoltage functionality, PGOOD will pull low when it is undervoltage and overvoltage.

This means you could use external circuitry with the PGOOD function to protect downstream devices in the case of an uncontrollable event or failure.

    Hope this helped,
