BQ24278: Alternative stand alone charger

Hi,

My electrical engineer has sugested  the BQ24278  charger ic for an upcoming project, for the  main reason that it doesnt need a host system.

But the datasheet says, dont use for new designs, and the availability isnt too good, so i wonder if there is a newer alternative to this ic?
