BQ27GDK000EVM is now obselete

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27531EVM, BQ27531-G1, BQ24192

Hi,

Few month ago, I bought the BQ27531EVM because I wanted to use the BQ27531-G1 and BQ24192 in one of my design. Once I started playing with it, I quickly realised that the BQ27531 needed some sort of tuning in order to perform at its best. Since I do not have any datasheet of the battery that I'm using, the easiest way I found to properly configure the BQ27531 was by doing learnings cycles. The problem is that my battery has a 12 Ah capacity. A learning cycle would take more than a day, it is not possible for me to manually perform a learning cycle. I've found online the BQ27GDK000EVM and it looked like everything I needed. It was able to perform automated learning cycles and automated cycling with customizable profiles. I've tried to visit the BQ27GDK000EVM product page this week but it wasn't working. I've contacted the customer support center and they've told me that the BQ27GDK000EVM was now obselete. It doesn't seems possible to perform automated learning cycles anymore, I've not found any other evaluation board from TI that could do this. Is there a solution? Will this board be replaced by a new evaluation board?

Thanks!

  • Hi Alexis,

A new evaluation board is not ready yet.  One thing you can do is to set up an automated system by yourself to perform the learning cycle.  For example, we normally use Keithley source meters in our labs. Basically, they can be simply controlled via RS-232 or GPIB for charge or discharge.  In addition, you can also use a bench power supply + electrical DC load if you don't have a Keithley source meter.
