TPS25910: Schematic Review

Dear Team,

I am not sure how to deal with the GATE pin if didn't use it.

Can you double-check the schematic?

    You can leave the Gate pin floating when unused. Do not connect a resistor to GND on the Gate pin.

    It is recommended to use a TVS at the input and a Schottky diode at the output to clamp for transient overvoltages caused by input and output inductances which otherwise can go beyond the Absolute Maximum Ratings of the device and damage it.

    Selection Criteria for Schottky diode:

    Due to output inductance, there will be negative voltage spikes generated at output of efuse during transient conditions like fast turn off. We need to make sure that the –ve voltage generated at output should be clamped below |-0.3 V| which is generally the absmax rating of the HJotswap Controller. The schotty diode used at the output should have,

    • A DC blocking  voltage rating much higher than the Vinmax
    • Non-Repetitive Peak Surge Current rating > the fast trip threshold of the Hotswap controller
    • Clamping voltage at fast trip threshold less than -0.3V

    For TVS diode, you can consider using 5.0SMBJ13A. . We highly recommend that you to test the maximum over voltage seen by the controller during transient conditions to confirm if the TVS used is good enough to clamp the transient voltage spikes to less than Abs max rating of Vin pins of the controller. If 5.0SMBJ13A is not able to clamp the over voltage at input during transients to less than 22V then you can try using 5.0SMCJ13A
