BQ78350-R1: How to read capacity after shutdown?

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940

I am working on a BMS that contains BQ7694003DBTR, BQ76200PWR and BQ78350-R1. I have the CEDV configuration but I want to know how to maintain the right capacity after shutdown, reset or deconnecting the pack because when doing so, I obtain a 0% SOC.

Thank you.

  • Hi,

During Shutdown, the BQ76940 receives the Shutdown command from the BQ78350-R1 and then powers down the REGOUT which turns off the BQ78350-R1. When the BQ78350-R1 comes out of Shutdown, it will no longer have the previous Remaining Capacity so it will estimate the SOC based on the cell voltages.

To get the most accurate SOC estimate based on cell voltages, the correct ChemID for your battery should be selected. The process of selecting the ChemID is covered in Section 2.3 of the Using the BQ78350-R1 app note: http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slua924

Section 9.1.4 of the BQ78350-R1 Technical Reference Manual goes into more detail on how Remaining Capacity is estimated initially. There is a data flash parameter RemCap Init Percent that can be used to scale the initial value as well.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Thank you Matt.

I will try to do so and observe the results.

    Best Regards,
