TPS7A4701-EP: Time from disable to output off

Part Number: TPS7A4701-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A47

Hello,

Can you tell us when bringing EN (low) how long before the output is off?   We would like to understand typical and range and what is actually determining the time.  Today we observe 1.4ms from disable to off.   Also what impact does the output capacitor have on this timing, can we quantify what is expected based on the size of the output capacitor?

Thank you,

HSG

  • Hi HSG,

TPS7A47 does not have active discharging, which means when disabling the part, there is no active pull-down circuit that can quickly discharge the output voltage. In this case, the discharging time is linked to the output capacitor size, the load current, and any leakage current at the output pin.

If your load can be modeled as a resistance load and it dominates the discharging current, you may apply the RC discharging curve to estimate the discharging time. If your load is small and comparable to the leakage current of the capacitors used at the output, you may also need to take into account of the capacitors' leakage current.
