TPS65917-Q1: Single & Dual phase transition

Dear all.

For TPS65917-Q1 (O917A133TRGZRQ1), SMPS1 and 2 provide two modes: Single-Phase / Dual-Phase.

I wonder if I can set up a dual-phase with HW design only.

(On the datasheet p.47 below, switch is automatically enabled.)

"By default, SMPS1&2 operates in dual-phase mode for higher load currents and switches automatically to single-phase mode for low load currents."

Please check if there are any parts that need to be set up in SW and give us a general Dual-Phase setup guide.

Hi, The user guide on how to use the TPS65917-Q1 with the 0x33 settings is located here: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuaj1f/slvuaj1f.pdf

You cannot change the default phase configuration of this device, meaning you cannot tie together SMPS1 and SMPS2. This device is OTP (one-time programmable) and is set by default for SMPS1 and SMPS2 to be separate regulators in this configuration.

Do you mean you can't use dual phase with this device (O917A133TRGZRQ1)?
So what are the possible P/N?

And, for use as a dual phase, is it constructed as shown in Figure 5-14 of the datasheet?
Or is there any register that needs to be changed?

Yes you are correct. This setting is programmed in the TI factory and can't be changed afterwards. The default settings we have released for this device are in the user guides below. Depending on which processor is being used, there are different TPS65917-Q1 configurations (some single-phase, some dual-phase):
