SM72295: Maximum switching frequency

Part Number: SM72295
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG1210

Hi TI,

I would like to know the maximum frequency specification.

I try to set the switching frequency to 2Mhz.

What parameters are related to it? tLPHL and tHPHH?

Can I use the mosfet for the GaN driver?

Is there anything to be careful about?

  • Hi Mason,

Thanks for reaching out on e2e about sm72295.

The maximum switching frequency of this device depends on the device power dissipation capabilities among other things like the load or fet gate voltage characteristics.

Power dissipation considerations for this part can be found on the sm72295 datasheet page 9.

Parameters that affect the maximum switching frequency are the gate voltage rise and fall time as well as the propagation delay, as you said. The longer these times, the lower the switching frequency max.

Typically this part is used to drive mosfets and not GaN fets. If you are trying to drive at 2Mhz we have the lmg1210 which is a gate driver capable of switching a GaN half bridge at very high switching frequencies.

Please let me know if this answers your question or you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Jeffrey,

    Thanks for your answer.

Is it possible to design the full bridge circuit with the LMG1210+ Si MOSFET for 40Vpp  output(sinewaveform)?

  • Hi Mason,

2x lmg1210 can be used to make a full bridge with sinusoidal  output at 40V. Mosfets or GaN fets can be used.

    Thanks,
