REG113: LDO Stability Under No- Load

Which datasheet specification ascertains or provides information on no-load stability? For example, a controller in sleep or stop mode uses tens of microamps, which would literally be a no-load to some LDO's. Please note the part number REG113 is NOT correct, it would not let me put the right number there (says no such part) Well, so much for IT automation, folks!

I was specifically looking at this TI device:  TPS78330DDCR

    Most of our newer LDO's do not have a minimum load requirement. So we don't have a specific parameter for the electrical characteristics section. We do have the following in the datasheet:

    While the TPS783 was a good part when it was made, we now have a 20x improvement in IQ and a much faster transient response with our latest TPS7A02

    With a Vout of 3V, and Iout of 10 to 20mA, any way of knowing what the dropout might be with a nominal 3.6V in?

    Not sure from the collage of graphs I can determine that, other than putting one on a breadboard and testing? Mostly interested in Tambient at this point.

  • Also - thanks for pointing out the TPS78330 inserted clip! Missed that section that points out regarding stability at no load. Transient response is not an issue, provided it does not have that response after enabled.

    Thanks. The worst-case drop-out for 3.0V at 200mA load current is 360mV (TJ=125C). So at 20mA, you would be looking at less than 36mV. So this should be more than adequate at lower temperatures. 

    You should be able to order samples for free online. Let me know if you run into issues.
