BQ78350-R1: BQ78350-R1 balancing settings

Part Number: BQ78350-R1

Dear all,

we have battery backs being imbalanced(if charged difference greater than 40mV).

What is a an practicable setting for balancing window and min values? Default is 100mV and 50mV, but this settings never bring the chip to balance the cells.

Do you have any suggestions for those values(could 10mV and 5mV be used)?

Or are there any typical values for the cell type INR18650-35E?

Best regards

Robert Steinbauer

  • Hi Robert,

It is difficult to say - we do not have typical or suggested values based on battery type. This is usually very application specific. The BQ78350-R1 balancing algorithm only balances during charge, so it partly depends on how fast the charge cycle is and it partly depends on the amount of balance current configured by the cell balance resistors.

I think it makes sense to first lower the cell balance min value. The default setting of 40mV will only balance the cells if the difference measured is >40mV.

    Regards,

    Matt
