TL1454A: TL1454A Operational Temperature

Part Number: TL1454A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL5001, TL1451, TL1451A

The thermal rating for the TL1454A appears to be -20°C to +85°C as shown in the absolute maximum ratings. I am curious what parameters or degradation happen if the device is operated over the industrial -40°C to +125°C range?

It appears to me per the graphs that the SCP pin UVLO could be most affected as would the Error amplifier voltage swing and possibly the output push-pull transistor voltage drop?

  • Hi Bryce,

Thank you for reaching out with your question and for considering the TL1454A in your design.

If the junction temperature is below -20C or above 85C for this device we cannot guarantee that the device will operate properly. If the temperature range of your application is -40C to 125C there are other parts that support this range.

What are the application specifications? It should be possible to find a suitable device.

    Thanks,

    Garrett

  • Thanks Garrett,

I figured this would be the response, was hoping for any specifics but I understand. Likely alternative will be the Tl1451A. I have used it in the past. Just not quite as nice of an output driver stage nor as high switching frequency. Any others would be nice to know about. I do not want internally tied voltage reference for voltage regulation (commonly done on devices such as the TL5001). I am not using a push pull output either so the TL1454 and TL1451 are in the same category for me.

  • Bryce,

I agree with you the TL1451A is probably going to be the best alternative device.

Just for my curiosity, why do you not want an internal reference in the IC?

  • I can't go into specifics but I am not regulating voltage.
