TPS62160-Q1: Question regarding schematics and PCB

Hello!

My goal of this schematic is to build buck converter from 12-14.4v (4*LiFePO4) to 5V/1A that can be utilized as mobile charger

While i was building the PCB based on datasheet and other study materials, i have completed to build PCB but not sure if this is quite okay to use. So i wonder if you guys can give me feedback on my PCB.

Also, as i run DRC in my PCB, it says my USB port shield should be connected as warning. should i just go over it?

I attatched my schematic as well as PCB design.

Hojung,

the schematic looks good. Your layout needs attention. The circulating loops are too long. There are detailed layout instructions in the datasheet. Please follow them closely. The USB port shield should be connected to chassis ground. Your PCB ground should also be connected to chassis ground using a single point connection.

As you meant chassis ground should be connected, i connected a GNDPWR to shield pin. i attatched shcematics of it.

But i am quite confusing about my PCB ground should be connected to chassis ground using single point connection.

As i changed my schematic and update PCB, i do not have warnign signal on. would this be good to go? or should i find a part to connect through signle point?

Hojung,

Normally you would connect your PCB ground t chassis using a single point connection. What type of enclosure so you intend to use?

I was planning to use regular plastic box for my enclosure. this will be located in head part of the bicycle.

was this what you meant?

Hojung,

If you are using a plastic enclosure, you will not have a chassis ground. I think you can still improve the layout some. The input capacitor should be as close to the IC VIN and GND pis as is practical. The SW node trace should be shorter as well as wider with the inductor moved closer to the IC. I would also turn the inductor 180 degrees so the output side is close to the output capacitor. The output voltage trace should be wider. I typically do not use regular etch traces for these but use copper pour areas instead.
