CSD97396Q4M: current peak rating - slightly different operating conditions

Part Number: CSD97396Q4M

The datasheet specifies the peak current as 65A, performed at 100Hz, with pulse duration of 100us. My customer has an application with pulses of 50A, 120Hz, with duration up to 1ms. How do I go about calculating the heat dissipation considering this different scenario? Is the CSD97396Q4M suitable for the application?

Thank you!

  • Hi Lenio,

We will check and reply to you.

  • Hi Lenio,

CSD97396Q4M is a 30A DC/ 65A peak  Power Stage module. That 65A is the peak OCP ( over-current protection) level  while 97396 is switching under nominal conditions as described in data-sheet: Vin=12V, Vout=1.8V, Fsw=500kHz with Lo=0.29uH, duty cycles in the 10% to 20% range.

Please read Fig.6 and Fig.7 on data-sheet plotting SOA  graphs( Safe Operation Area). You can't exceed 30A DC during normal Operation regardless of cooling LFM.

With 50A load for 1mS the part will enter thermal shut-down protection and latch-up. You can unlatch it by cycling Vdd supply rail.

    Best regards

    Lucian
