TLV759P: Difference between TLV759P and TPS7A91

Part Number: TLV759P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A91,

Hi team,

I'm looking for 1A LDO, TLV759P and TPS7A91. I convert 5V to 3.3V to supply the I2C isolator. I'd like to know the difference between two devices and wonder what would be better for this normal operation. The basic functionalities of both parts look similar for me. Thank you in advance for your prompt response!

  • Hi Minkyung,

The difference is that the TLV759P is a general-purpose LDO and the TPS7A91 is a high-performance low-noise LDO.  I think the TLV759P should be OK electrical, but the TPS7A91 has a better TJA (i.e. gets the heat out of the package better.

In your example, from 5VIN to 3.3VOUT at 1A, the LDO will be dissipating 1.7W of power (5-3.3)*1,

For the TLV759P, the thermal rise is 80.3C/W*1.7W or 136.5C rise above ambient. This is over our recommended even if the ambient temp is 0.

For the TPS7A91, the thermal rise would be 56.9C/W*1.7W or a 96.73C rise above ambient. So here we have some margin assuming a 25C ambient.

I hope this answers your question.
