TPS7A85A: Venable level

Part Number: TPS7A85A

Hi

I have a question regarding the allowed voltage level for the Ven in the LDO.

From the data sheet:http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps7a85.pdf?&ts=1589468396224

Table 6.3 Recommended operating condition state the level is up to Vin voltage level.

The absolute maximum rating the level of Ven is up to 7.0V, the electrical characteristic table define Vin_high of the Enable is up yo 6.5V.

Is there an impact on the MTBF if I operate the LDO with Venable voltage above Vin of the LDO?

I plan to provide 3.3V for the Enable pin voltage level while some of my LDO's the Vin is 1.2V.

According to my understanding, I can do it (I am not in the recommended operating condition), but I would like to understand the impact on the MTBF or other damage that may occur.

Regards

Omer

  • Hi Omar,

This is possible with the TPS7A85A. In other devices where the enable voltage must come up after the input voltage, our absolute maximum rating table would show that VEN can not exceed VIN+0.3V.

The TPS7A85A was designed to do this. Also if you use 3.3V to drive VBIAS you will have slightly better PSRR performance.

I hope this answers your question.
