TPS715-Q1: reverse current protection

Hi expert:

I find below description in datasteet.

"The TPS715xx-Q1 PMOS-pass transistor has a built-in back diode that conducts reverse current when the input voltage drops below the output voltage (for example, during power down). Current is conducted from the output to the input and is not internally limited."

Can you detail me the built-in back diode and reverse current protection? BTW, when current is conducted from the output to the input, I think other devices connected to VIN may be damaged.

    Hi Lin,

    The common way to prevent reverse current is to add a diode in series with VIN. 

    The comment above is if there is a potential for a large current fo flow from VOUT to VIN, it is recommended that a Schottky diode be placed from VOUT to VIN so the current flows through the Schottky diode and not the parasitic diode in the LDO>.

    Here is an example for both:
