Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400

I am designing a wireless transmitter based on BQ500212A. I notice that the device provided an I2C interface (but SMBus based?). The datasheet suggests a "USB Interface Adapter". I have an EV2400. Can I use it to suppliant the one suggested? If so, should it be connected to I2C or SMBus port? Thank you.
