BQ25100: will not charge or stops charging unexpectedly

Part Number: BQ25100

I'm using the BQ25100 to charge a small 12mAh LiOn-cell. We have until now produced more than 900 items and we find that some devices won't charge or stops being

able to charge after a few hours of use. Examining the external components shows no errors - they are all connected. The symptom is that when power is applied initially the

charging current is correct but drops immidiately herafter or slowly up to a minut or two after applying power. The applied power is less than 15mA at all times so it is not a heating

problem which also a thermal foto shows. Some units that were tested and found defective during production had the BQ25100 replaced which solved the issue. As it is we are about to

ramp up our production to a large number but have trouble about this issue. Of course I have schematics and layout at hand but NDA's......

I would appreciate your input to help me get assured that the BQ25100 can be used in the future.

  • Hi Jørgen,

For low charge current it is recommended to add extra RC to ISET pin (see d/s 9.2).

Are you are only seeing this issue when battery voltage is within fast charge region? No issues with pre-charge or termination?

Would be best to take this over email to review the schematics, I have sent you an e2e friend request.

    Best,
