TPS92511: Is there any way to improve TPS92511 output current accuracy?

Part Number: TPS92511
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92640

 Hello guys,

One of my customers is considerring using TPS92511.

But the device output current accuracy is lower a littel bit than their requirement.

They need +/-5% current accuracy as a total solution.

Is there any way to improve TPS92511 output current accuracy?

Or do you have any device which has higher current accuracy than TPS92511?

 Their requirments are the follows.

1. Input voltage > 60V

2. Vout > 42V

3. 500mA output or 350mA output.

4. Output current accuracy < +/-5%

5. Switching frequency > 500kHz

6. Dimming by analog or PWM or both.

7. Short protection and thermal shutdown.

Your reply would be much appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya.

  • Hello Kazuya,

It should be close to that accurate.  They can use a 0.1% Iadj resistor.  At 25C  the range for 500 mA is 484mA  502mA  520mA, less than +/-5%.  For full temperature range, -40C to 125C it is 477mA 502mA 528mA which is close to +/-5%.  TPS92640/641 was designed for accuracy if they want more precise current regulation.

How have they determined the current regulation accuracy does not meet their requirement?

    Best Regards,

  •  Hello Irwin,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I will tell them to use a higher accuracy resister for Iadj resistor.

I know TPS92640/641 is a device which has good current accuracy. But the device price is higher than their target.

Their price target is less than 0.20$.

So I will try to recommend them TPS92511 strongly.

I don't know why their criteria is +/-5%. It might be a level which can be recognized as having un-uniformity brightness.

Thank you again and best regards,

     Kazuya.
