LMG34XX-BB-EVM: LMG34XX-BB-EVM PWM Input

Part Number: LMG34XX-BB-EVM

Hello,

I am using LMG34XX-BB-EVM with LMG3410EVM-018 . On page 7 of SNOU165A, it says that "The LMG34XX-BB-EVM has the following features and specifications: Requires only a single 0V to 5V PWM input to generate gate drive signal"

I tried with using 3.3V, epwm output of LaunchXLF28379D to the input of LMG34XX-BB-EVM. It works fine. For long term use, is it advisable by TI that instead of 5V PWM, using 3.3V PWM?

Thank you

Murat

  • Hello Murat,

Technically it will work just fine with 3.3V since the threshold for a high signal is around 2.5V. For a lower voltage input signal, it has more chances for missing pulses/false trigger due to the noises of the signal. For the daughter card and motherboard provided by TI, this issue is minimal since the layout is been optimized and signals should be fairly clean. For your own design in the future, if 3.3V is still being used, make sure the probe the IN signal and switch node performance to see the noise level as well as any missing pulses/false trigger.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

  • Hello Yichi,

    Thank you for the information.
