UCC3895: Operating temperature

Part Number: UCC3895
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC1895, UCC2895

Hi,

In the datasheet, UCC3895 has operating temperature of 0 to 70C.

1. operating junction temperature is -55 to 125C. Why is gap from operating to operating junction temperature bigger than other devices? usually, operating temperature is up to 85C

2. There is no thermal shutdown function. if ambient is higher than 70C, will UCC3895 get the damage?

3. if junction temperature is increased above 125C, will UCC3895 get the damage?

Thanks.

  • Hi David,

The UCC3895 is an older device released over 20 years ago so I dont know of anyone that will be able to answer the first question.

The recommended Tj max is 125C so as long as the junction temperature remains below 125C there is no risk of damage to the part.

If the junction temperature exceeds 125C then there is a risk that some of the electrical  parameters will go out of spec, but the part should not fail although the lifetime and reliability of the part will be reduced.

The electrical parameters are specified to a Tj of 70C for the UCC3895, to a Tj of 85C for the UCC2895 and to 125C for UCC1895.

    Regards

    Peter
