TPS61193-Q1: Calculate the junction temperature

Part Number: TPS61193-Q1
Hi TI-team.
My customer wants to put a thermocouple on the TPS61193-Q1 and calculate the junction temperature.
Please answer below.
1. Where is the measurement point that is closest to the maximum junction temperature ?
For terminals, enter the terminal name, and for packages, mark the figure below.
2. Could you tell me the thermal resistance of each of the case of attaching to the terminal and the case of attaching to the package ?
(If the thermal resistance has temperature characteristics, Ta=80℃, 85℃)

  • Hi Koji,

    1. Where is the measurement point that is closest to the maximum junction temperature ? For terminals, enter the terminal name, and for packages, mark the figure below.
You can just test the center of package.
    2. Could you tell me the thermal resistance of each of the case of attaching to the terminal and the case of attaching to the package? (If the thermal resistance has temperature characteristics, Ta=80℃, 85℃)
Why you need this? You can just use the R_theata_JA.
  • Hi Charles-san

    Thank you for response.

    1. I understand.

    2. I asked the customer.

They just wanted to estimate the junction temperature as accurately as possible.

Is it better to attach it to the package and calculate with RΘJA rather than attaching a thermocouple to the terminal ?

Is it necessary to make corrections such as the copper foil rate of the board ?

  • Hi Koji,

For the second question, it is better to use R_theata_JC and test the temperature of case to calculate.
