LP3985: Start up into Pre-bias?

Part Number: LP3985

Are there any issues with the LP3985-5.0 starting up into a pre-bias condition where the pre-bias will always be lower than Vin?  It will also be lower than the output set point.

Thanks!

  • Hi Allen,

The only concern with a pre-biased output is the there is a parasitic diode from VOUT to VIN which means reverse current will flow and charge up VIN. As long as this current is not excessive and the absolute maximum ratings of the device are not violated this regulator will function.

A device like the TPS706 mitigates the reverse current leakage issue.
