BQ25887: Default configuration concerns

Part Number: BQ25887

Dear colleague,

In customer application, there is a special need.

When the battery pack is overcharged, the system will shut down. Then they insert the adapter, but only battery pack voltage larger than a special value, the processor could power on.

So before battery pack voltage less than the special value, the battery pack is charged by default value. But this default value is too small for customer, they need much time to power on.

Customer question:

1. How to change default precharge current?

2. How to ensure that the charger keeps the previous configuration after power off?

Thanks a lot!

Best Regards,

Rock Su

  • Rock,

It is not possible to change the default register values. The customer will have to program the desired values in production for a faster initial boot. The settings will hold as long as the BATUVLO condition is met.

    Customer question:

    1. How to change default precharge current?

Rock please read the datasheet. Section 8.5.5, IPRECHG[3:0] these bits control the precharge current setting

    2. How to ensure that the charger keeps the previous configuration after power off?

If the VBUS and VBAT fall below their respective UVLO values, then the registers will return to default. To retain the settings configured by the customer please have the customer power off the system before BATUVLO is reached.

    Thanks,

    Ricardo
