LM5001: Working with lower frequency

Part Number: LM5001

Hi Team,

We saw that the recommended frequency is 50KHz-1.5MHz.

My customer would like to consider the LM5001 for their design however they will be interested in working at 33KHz.

Could you please explain how will it affect the controller ? Will it be safe to work with lower frequency on certain use cases ?

Best regards,

Nir.

  • Hi Nir,

Thank you for reaching out and for promoting the LM5001. I am wondering they want to operate at such a low frequency, which would result in excessively large magnetics and capacitors.

Anyway, we can only guarantee what is recommended in the datasheet, and we do not have any authority to recommend otherwise.  At 33kH you may found it works, but the performance is not guaranteed by TI and the customer can use at their own responsibility. One concern that I have is, in corner cases the oscillator may not follow the oscillator the programming equation; besides the internal slope compensation which may saturate at the peaks to lose effectiveness.

You may reach us in email to discuss about this application and we may be able to propose an appropriate solution.

    Thanks,
