TPS22941: Over current and Turn ON time

Part Number: TPS22941

Hello,

We use two TPS22941 on the same custom board.  and we have measured the limit current on both component when the signal OC is active LOW. The same schematic and Test setup is used for both component.

For the first component, we measued a limit current of about 75mA which is correct.

But for the second component we measured a limit current of 85mA which is above the specified value (80mA max). Do you have an explanation ? Is there a current dispersion on this component?

Thanks for your support

  • Hi Laurent,

    Welcome to E2E!

I have a few questions and requests in order for me to review the behavior of the current limiting feature of the TPS22941  you are testing:

    • How many TPS22941 have been tested and how many have exhibited the same behavior? (On the post I see 2 are on the same board, but have other TPS22941 been tested on other boards?)
    • Would you be able to share details on the test procedure being followed for this test?
    • Would you be able to share a schematic of the configuration of the TPS22941 that is used for the test?

    Best regards,

    Andy Robles

  • Hi Andy,

I have tested only 2 TPS22941 on the same boards. I could test other TPS22941 but the boards are not available for the moment.

The schematic and test setup are shown in figure below.

I vary the value of resistive and I measure the value of limit current when the signal DC_BIAS1 is active LOW.

  • Hi Laurent,

Not sure if it's an error that occurred on my part, but I do not see a figure in your last post. Could you please re-post that figure?

    Best regards,

    Andy Robles

  • Hi Berlin,

Thank you for all the information you have shared. I do have some additional questions to help me understand if this is normal operation or if this is indeed outside of our specs:

    • In a previous note you mention that you vary the value of the resistance. When you vary the value of the the resistance to hit the current limit at 85mA does the device stay in constant current mode at 85mA or does the current limit decrease after some time?
      • Would you be able to share a scope shot at the moment when the device reaches current limit?
    • If the suspected is enabled into a short does the current limit also limit at 85mA?

    Best regards,

    Andy Robles
