LM2940-N: output exposed to high voltage

Part Number: LM2940-N

Hi Team,

Question : If some one applied voltage at output pin of LM290S-12/NOPB (Fixed 12V ) then, what is the maximum voltage range, that it can sustain without damage ?

Regards,

Mahendra

  • Hi Mahendra,

There is no maximum output voltage listed in the datasheet for this device. I would consider using min(Vin, 12V) (the smaller one between Vin and 12V) as the maximum voltage that can be applied to the device. The reason it needs to be smaller than Vin is that this device has no reverse current protection and if Vout > Vin case is anticipated, please add a diode between the output to the input to lift this limit.
