TPS65218D0: Minimum and typical capacitance LDO1

Part Number: TPS65218D0
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65218, , TPS65218EVM-100

Hello everyone,

There's been the question about the minimum capacitance to have the LDO1 stable. For the TPS65218, the datasheet stated min. 10uF, max. 100uF, and all the figures (e.g. Figure 1-1) had a 10uF output capacitor shown.

In the datasheet of the TPS65218D0 now, the datasheet states a capacitance of typ. 22uF, max. 100uF for the LDO1, but no minimum. The figures however, e.g. Figure 1-1, still show a 10uF capacitor.

May I interpret this in that way, that the range of capacitor for the TPS65218D0 LDO1 is min. 10uF, typ. 22uF, max. 100uF?

Best regards,

Muriel

  • Muriel,

There are two capacitors used for LDO1 in the schematic (refer to Figure 1-1. Simplified Schematic on page 3 of the TPS65218D0 datasheet):

    • Input capacitor at IN_LDO1 (pin 5) - recommended capacitance is 4.7uF
    • Outputcapacitor at LDO1 (pin 4) - recommended capacitance is 10uF
      • in the Electrical Specification on page 15, the typical is listed as 22uF and max is 100uF

Therefore, the minimum that we recommend is 10uF, which is in the Simplified Schematic and on the TPS65218EVM-100 board.
