TPS27S100: About thermal performance.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1HB50-Q1

Hi team.

I'd like to know about thermal performance.
I want to use TPS27S100A on 4A.
However, I am concerned about the fever.

W=Rds(166mΩ)*4A*4A=2.656W

Can I use my condition?
According to slma002, TSSOP has typical Power-Handling Capabilities is 2.32W.
Do you think there is no problem if I take measures for heat dissipation?
What kind of heat dissipation measures should be taken?

Sincerely.
Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo,

4A is within the nominal DC current spec'd for this device. You are correct in saying that there is large power dissipation but the use case of 4A should not damage the device. If die temperatures are too high, the device will hit thermal shutdown to protect itself.

With such a large power dissipation, precautions like good thermal contact between the device and board as well as the ambient temperature should be accounted for. Please refer to Section 10 on the datasheet for the recommended layout guidelines.

Another option is to use a switch with lower R_on like TPS1HB50-Q1.

Thank you for choosing TI Power Switches in your designs.

  • Hi Shreyas,

    Thank you for your advice.

TPS1HB50 is a very nice spec.
Could you tell me about the MP schedule?

    Sincerely.
    Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo,

We do not provide schedule details on E2E. Please email me for more information at s-dmello@ti.com
