BQ76952: Overvoltage protection ICs

Hi,

I Have dew questions regarding this IC:

Datasheet tells me that it has overvoltage protection, but why are we using external protection ICs (BQ771807DPJR) in EVM. What is the advantage of adding external protection IC in design considering this feature is already inbuilt in AFE.
Does EVM has onboard Cell balancing.

Some customers decide to use a secondary protection IC for redundancy, depending on their application, the certifications they want to run on the packs and their system approach to these certifications.

Cell balancing is disabled on the PBQ76952 currently available on ti.com, including in the BQ76952EVM.

Hi David,

Thanks for your response, its sums it up pretty much.

One more thing is I was trying to get my hands on some EVM boards featuring the same IC, but unable to get it because it seems unavailable from quite a some time.

Can you tell me from when it might be available or where I can get such info.

hi Anurag,
the BQ76952EVM is a popular item. We replenished the stock last week but it got emptied again very quickly. We have built additional EVMs which are on their way to our shipping facility. You should be able to see the EVM back on ti.com in a few days.
if you cannot wait to have a look at most of the features of BQ76952, you could order the BQ76942EVM, We developed BQ76942 in parallel with BQ76952. It supports up to 10s (vs. 16s for BQ76952) but works in a similar fashion.
