TLC59116-Q1: Would like to drive load without 97kHz oscillator

Part Number: TLC59116-Q1

Hi all,

Can you tell me the questions below?

  • Is it possible for this device to drive load with only GRPPWM or GRPFREQ register? If PWM register is 255 (max), will duty be 100% like the figure below?
  • If answer to the question above is yes, can you tell me if it's possible to change the duty channel by channel?

Thanks,

RYO

i think it is impossible for this device to drive load with only GRPPWM or GRPFREQ register.  Because in LEDOUT 11 mode, the describe is as below:

so you have to also use individual channel register to control the the output.

For your issue,  you can read the 9.6.6 chapter in datasheet, and you can get all you need: )

  • Hi Frank,

Thank you so much for your reply. I got it that what I wanted to do can be done by LDRx = 01 and GRPPWRM or GRPFREQ.

  • Hi Frank,

Sorry, please dismiss my post above. It seems that LDRx=01 cannot enable GRPPWM and/or GRPFREQ from the statement at 9.6.6 as below.

GRPFREQ is used to program the global blinking period when the DMBLNK bit (MODE2 register) is equal to 1. Value in this register is a Don't care when DMBLNK = 0. This is applicable to LED output programmed with LDRx = 11 (LEDOUT0, LEDOUT1, LEDOUT2 and LEDOUT3 registers).

Do you have any ideas to realize this?

    Regards,
    RYO

  • i don't recommend customer use LDRx=11, to another word we don't recommend customer use group dimming mode.

i suggest your customer to individually control each channel in this case.
