TPS23755: question about TPS23755 and TPS23758

Part Number: TPS23755
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23758

Hi,

I find the E2E question in this link:https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/p/805810/3155216#3155216?jktype=e2e

and stiil have some questions

1. Can use the sync FET in secondary side in TPS23755 ?  or use diode rectifier in TPS23758?

2. why the TPS23755 must use diode while sync FET in TPS23758? which parameter decide this?

3. my understanding is that no matter the sync FET or diode rectifier, the different is efficiency and power consumption? any others will affact the output voltage?

  • Hello Betty,

    1. No, the TPS23755 should be used with diodes only and the TPS23758 should be used in sync flybacks only.

    2. This is due to the part and what each part was optimized to use. This is due to the need for tight regulation in PSR designs.

    3. Yes there are differences in efficiencies between the two. We have found that sync flybacks are optimized for 5V and less, and diode rectified flybacks are optimized for 12V and higher.
