LMG1210: supply voltage to LMG1210

Part Number: LMG1210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28780, , UCC27712

Hi Team,

Hello, I am designing an active clamp flyback with GaN switches. I use UCC28780 as PWM Controller IC and LMG1210 for high-side low-side gate drive operation. I have a critical problem here. The supply of the UCC28780 provided from auxiliary winding of the transformer and this IC has internal starting operation but LMG1210 doesn't have this circuitry as I understand. The input voltage of the circuit is 48V and I can't directly supply LMG1210.
Do I have any chances to supply voltage to LMG1210 in this case from auxiliary winding? Or do you have any other gate suitable driver for this case?

Beat Regards,
Tom Liu

  • Hello Tom,

    Thanks for reaching out.

LMG1210 may share bias supply from the PWM controller assuming this voltage is within the recommended operating condition of the gate driver IC.

I would suggest external current limiting resistors on the VIN of LMG1210 in addition to clamps against transient surges.

Additionally, an alternative may use UCC27712 according the UCC28780EVM.
