TPS53353EVM-744: Why the converter can operate normally even I remove the ripple injection circuit?

Part Number: TPS53353EVM-744

I removed the ripple injection circuit and want to verify the stability, pulse burst phenomenon should occur because the stability condition is not satisfied. However, the converter still operates normally and no pulse burst phenomenon occur. Only the jitter performance is damaged. I also simulated in PSpice with the model provided in ti.com and the result is same. This result which is not consistent with theory really confused me.

  • Hi Jayden,

Even though the switching is stable without the RCC in steady state, there may be low phase margin in the loop. With low phase margin you would see output oscillations and bursting behavior during a load transient. I tried this out myself and do see this with a 10A load step with 1µs rise/fall time.
