BQ76920: Connection between BQ76920 and BQ24630

Part Number: BQ76920
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24630

Hi Team,

For Lithium Iron Phosphate battery such as US26650FTC1A LFP/Gr from Murata, how do we connect BQ76920 and BQ24630 to multiple batteries?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

Battery cells are typically connected in series to provide the needed voltage and parallel to provide the needed capacity.  So to make a 12.8V 6Ah battery with the cells indicated you would connect 8 cells together as a 4S2P assembly.  The BQ76920 would monitor the 4 cell groups.  This assembly would be the "battery pack" shown in the simplified schematic in the BQ24630 data sheet.  If the battery is standalone the low side switching should be fine.  If the system needs to talk to the battery it will need some type of isolator for the communication path to allow communication and prevent leakage during fault.
