WEBENCH® Tools/TPS65217DEVM: TPS65217DRSLR Power Issue

Part Number: TPS65217DEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65217

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello

TPS65217DRSLR IC have a power on issue when its connected to DC power source through toggle switch sometimes, but IC continuously Operate until board is off by toggle switch . When switch is on again The Power Management Not working (didn't get Output Voltages) can anyone suggest the solution

  • Manohar,

Why does this question refer to "WEBENCH Design Tools"? There is no WEBENCH support for this PMIC. Was this a mistake?

When you are using the TPS65217DEVM, you have to keep in mind that it is for evaluating the power supply capabilities of the device (output voltage, ripple, load transient, etc).

However, it is likely that you do not have a battery connected to the EVM in your test setup. Also, you may or may not be applying a voltage at VIO continuously, even after your power switch to the AC pin is toggled.

Simply put, these types of non-standard use cases are likely to cause some issues with the internal state machine of the device. This device defaults to VBAT as a power supply, and if you remove and re-apply VAC quickly (in <1s) and there is still a voltage on the VBAT pin, then there VSYS = VBAT and it appears that there is a power supply available for the digital core of the TPS65217 PMIC.

The best way to avoid this issue is to ensure VAC=0V for >1s before re-applying power or VBAT = 0V before re-applying power at AC pin.
