TPS650330-Q1: Design Documentation for TPS650330-Q1

Part Number: TPS650330-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS650330Q1EVM

Dear TI,

I recieived 5 samples of the PTPS65033000RGERQ1 through the sampl program on 21/08/2020. Thank you.

Now, my case CS0258748 for access to the full data sheet and other design documentation for this device remains unaswered for last 12 days.

Does this make sens to you? What I'm supposed to do with those samples?

Regards,

Les

  • Hi Les,

We apologize for the delay and are looking into your request. I agree that having the samples does not do much good if you don't have any documentation.

However, since this device is still "Preview" status, an NDA is required to access to this device's relevant documents. TI records currently indicate that your company does not have an NDA on file. Please contact your local TI sales office to get an NDA in place in the system. Once that is complete, we can grant your access.

I will point out that this device (TPS650330-Q1) is scheduled to become public at the end of October. If your schedule permits, you could also wait for the documents to become publicly available at that time.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hi Gerald,

    Thanks for your response.

Yes, the device has "Preview" status and I received them as part of sample program to wich my company has been granted access. I guess that's "different departments" effecct.

You say it's only a matter of NDA, but that's not exactly correct. There is no problem with my company signing a NDA. There issue is that my local TI sales representative won't even provide a NDA for signing. I understand they are not offered just to anyone. Perhaps, then the answer is that my comany doesn't qualify for NDA.

    Regards,

    Les

  • Hi Les,

Yes, I believe the requirements are a little different for obtaining samples. Unfortunately, at this point in the product's development our team cannot grant access to view the documents without the NDA. I do apologize for this inconvenience. The good news is that this device is only about 1.5 months from release to market, at which point more documents (datasheet, user's guide, etc.) will be publicly available on TI.com.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hi Gerard,

I was told by TI local "sales" that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to process NDA valid just for this chip. This is insane. What design engineer can wait these days that long before competing their design? Perhaps, at big automotive companies they can. TI don't seem to be interested helping other smaller companies anymore.

    From the TPS550330-Q1 product page:

"Full data sheet, TPS650330Q1EVM, TPS65033x efficiency and thermal estimator, and TPS65033X PSPICE models are available. Request now"

There is no mention of NDA anywhere, I requested the data sheet again.

    Regards,

    Les

  • Hi Les,

There is not a lot that can be done from the product team in regards to the NDA process timelines. Although many of this device's documents will already be public by the end of October, it may still be worthwhile to get an NDA in place since it could apply to other devices with Preview status and/or NDA restrictions.

It is not stated outright on the product page because not all "Request Now" links require and NDA. In the case of this product and several other PMICs, a request can only be granted if the requesting company has an NDA with TI. This is to protect IP due to the competitive nature of the automotive applications that these PMICs are designed for. At the same time, these are complex devices for which early customer feedback from their design/application is extremely valuable. As such, the compromise is to allow early access to datasheets, design files, etc ("Preview" status) as long as an NDA is valid with the sampling customer.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hi Gerard,

Sorry to bother you with this, but I just try to understand what is TS’s gain in this case (sending samples of actual devices and refusing to provide a data sheet for them).

I’ve recently signed NDA with large manufacturer of image sensors distributor needed for the project I’m working on. It took one email exchange. In TI’s case I’m not even able find out how to start this process. If you know please let me know.

As to the “Request Now” link. It’s on the product page so it could be product specific.

That’s TI’s explanation of “PREVIEW” devices:

“This product is not in production, although prototype or experimental parts are available for purchase. This product may be subject to changes during engineering validation until it is released to production.” Again, no mention of NDA requirement.

The whole NDA story seems to be a replacement for an honest response to my question: We’ve decided that your company doesn’t qualify to receive the documentation for the device.

I find this lack of honest rather disappointing.

As I need to start PCB layout now, I decided to remove the TPS650330-Q1 from the schematic (it was there based on theTIDA-020003 reference schematic available) and proceed with the design using very similar device (XR77103 triple buck converter) from another manufacturer currently available on Digi-Key.

Thank you for the excellent support provided.

    Regards,

    Les
