TPS25840-Q1: Cluster project question

Part Number: TPS25840-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25833-Q1

Hi

The customer applies TPS25840-Q1 to the cluster project.

We need answers to the customer's questions.

Customer enquiries:

1. The current requirement specification is USB A-type connector specification.

In this case, what is the maximum current support?

2. Should I connect the TPS25840-Q1 directly to the USB 3.0 AP port and configure the Vbus line as tps25840?

In this case, will it be possible to support up to 3.5A fast charging depending on the battery condition of many devices (iPhone x, Samsung)?

3. USB BC1.2 can charge up to 1.5A, but 2A or more when configured with TPS25840. Is that right?

  • Hi Sir,

Pls. find my comment as below:

    1. The current requirement specification is USB A-type connector specification.

In this case, what is the maximum current support?--> TPS25840-Q1 can support 3.5A output charge.

    2. Should I connect the TPS25840-Q1 directly to the USB 3.0 AP port and configure the Vbus line as tps25840?

In this case, will it be possible to support up to 3.5A fast charging depending on the battery condition of many devices (iPhone x, Samsung)?

It depend on the phone but not the TPS25840, the 840 only can config to SDP and CDP mode. If you focus on charge but not data communication, pls. choose TPS25831 or TPS25833.

    3. USB BC1.2 can charge up to 1.5A, but 2A or more when configured with TPS25840. Is that right?  --> for USB BC1.2 CDP mode it only can charge up to 1.5A. TPS25840 only support SDP and CDP mode.

If customer want to charge to 2.4A or 3A it need to choose TPS25833-Q1.  The TPS25833 support DCP auto mode and type C 3A.
